The Preform Analyzer's vertical design allows the user to perform rapid, fully automated measurements of core rods, finished preforms, and silica tubes. Automated rotation and z-axis (axial) translation not only enables high-speed, hands-free measurements, but it also provides highly comprehensive preform characterization since refractive index data can be obtained at many rotational angles along the length of the preform. More data necessarily results in more
accurate prediction of drawn fiber properties. The 2650 uses the well-known deflection function technique to compute the refractive index profile. Each measurement is referenced to a traceable silica calibration rod mounted in the analyzer which ensures dependable, highly repeatable measurements.
